Shepherd of the Lakes Evangelical Lutheran Church
Shepherd of the Lakes was established in 1961 as a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church, which later evolved into Lutheran Churches in America.
With the organization of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the LCA folded into the ELCA in 1988.
During 2023 & 2024, the congregation of Shepherd of the Lakes was led to follow the path to leave the ELCA due to a divergence of beliefs. This process was completed in January of 2024.
In January of 2024 Shepherd became a member of the Augsburg Lutheran Churches based out of Minneapolis, MN.
In March of 2024 Shepherd became a member congregation of the North American Lutheran Church. The NALC is a fast-growing, Christian church in the Lutheran tradition, uniting Lutherans in congregations across North America.
The North American Lutheran Church is a church family committed to the authority of the Bible as the inspired Word of God.
The congregation at Shepherd are a mission oriented group of giving and caring people. We support local, regional, and national benevolences that aide and support those in need.
Services were originally held in the Plum Lake Town Hall beginning in 1961until the church could be built on donated land on Main Street in Sayer. As the church and congregation grew, several additions have been made to the original building, the latest in 2008 & 2022.
